5/3 – Bluefish Bonanza

5/3 – We had Ryan S’s group out for the first time – these guys have been in our area for work and wanted to try offshore cod fishing – but given that bluefishing busted wide open the day before, we asked them if they would rather try that instead. They were game. We had blues right out in front of our inlet on jigs, but the boat traffic drove them down. Switching over to Stretch 25 plugs, we had no problem keeping the rods bent with blues from 5 to 12 pounds. After running around at couple of areas, we found the blues more stacked up and got back on them with jigs until the guys’ arms were sore.

CANYON OPEN BOAT/RESERVATION ONLY SCHEDULE – 2015

A lot of guys find it easier to join us on an “Open Boat” trip instead of finding enough guys to set up a full charter – we’re happy to accommodate that with our Open Boat/Reservation Only trips to the offshore grounds to pursue tuna, makos, mahi, marlin, and tilefish! You can still fish in the luxury of a charter boat – costing just a little more than party boat-style fishing.  We limit our trips to six anglers – no competing for space on the rail, bunks, or fishing time – there’s plenty all around! As usual, all top-notch tackle, bait, ice, fish cleaning is supplied. So here’s what is available (Note – angler trolling rotation based on order of reservation; catch is shared among charter anglers)

4/26 – Offshore COD to 30+ pounds

4/26 – We ran offshore to codfish with Jerry, Scott, Bill, George, and Fisherman Magazine staff John DeBona. Had great weather and great fishing, putting over two dozen keeper cod to 30+ pounds in the boat – and throwing back at least three times as many marginal short cod!  We have another OPEN BOAT charter on Sunday 5/3 – Call Capt. Alan 609-731-3742 for details.

4/18 – Offshore Cod

4/18 – Today we got in a beautiful day of a weather between two bad days of weather – and had a great group of guys with Howie, Cod King Leif, JD (“Sculpin King”), Matt, Bill, and Brad. We pushed off in the dark and got on our first offshore wreck at sun up. We found lots of life on all of our offshore wrecks. We sifted through LOTS of cod and pollock caught on bait and jigs – and had about 2 dozen solid keepers to 25 pounds. We had cancelled our 4/17 and 4/19 cod trips due to wind.Mushin 4-19-15-1Mushin 4-19-15-2

4/12 – Cod

4/12 – Pushed off early today for COD. Hit several wrecks and had a fair pick of cod and boated some keepers for the table. Prospected a couple of new wrecks and found the mother lode of shorts – it must have been the nursery with 19-20 inch cod! Lots of great signs for coming weeks on cod – with the wide spread of fish and water temps still in low/mid 40’s, we should solid on cod for a couple more weeks!

Feb 2015 – Booking Now for 2015!

We are excitedly getting ready for the 2015 Season! Our boat updates and upgrades are coming along nicely. We are actively booking for the 2015 season! Inshore stripers should in full swing by late April into the first week of June, and many of these choice dates are going quickly (Don’t forget about the “magic hour” stripers trips from 2:30 pm to dark! These are a great option for the working man, and the evening trips offer some prime time to liveline big bass!) Spring SEABASS and COD trips fill coolers with some of the best eating fish! Big and bad BLUEFISH will be in our waters by late May, and offer lots of fish fighting fun through the Summer. Mid-June will be start of the Mako Shark season – and while we are booked for the three local shark tournaments, we still have other weekend and weekdays available for tangling with high-flying MAKOs. Mid-June is also when we start targeting TUNAS in the CANYONS. We start with “day troll” trips targeting yellowfin and bigeye, and add mahi mahi and marlin.  As mid-July rolls around, we also start with “overnighter” canyon trips that offer time to troll in the evening, then chunk bait overnight, then troll again the next morning, giving us several shots at yellowfin and bigeye tuna, as well as makos, marlin, mahi, and even tilefish. The canyon fishing goes on into the Fall, but we have encouraged our clients to get offshore earlier in the season when the weather is more consistent and cooperative, plus we have had GREAT canyon fishing from June onward every season in recent years. With the speed and range of the Mushin, we will run to the distant canyons if needed to intercept the tuna and be where the fish are biting. Give Capt Ray 732-691-0949 or Capt Alan 609-731-3742 a call to get scheduled.
